November Establishment of the Japan Restaurant Association
1959
December Japan Restaurant Association receives approval from the Minister of Transport to become registered as an incorporated association.
Eichi Ogawa (Fujita Kanko) assumes office as the first chairman.
1964
October Operation of the Tokyo Olympic Press House Restaurant.
1971
April Launch of new finance system by Japan Restaurant Association in coordination with the Ministry of Transport, a loan system for small and medium-sized enterprises.
1973
March Opening of the first International Hotel Restaurant Show and sponsored partnership with Japan Management Association, Japan Restaurant Association, Japan Hotel Association, Japan Ryokan Association, Japan Ryokan & Hotel Association, and Japan Tourism Facilities Association.
1976
July Opening of the first international cooking certification course.
November Opening of the first international tourism restaurant manager certification course.
1977
April Implementation of international tourism restaurant system recommended by the Ministry of Transport.
1978
March Jun’ichi Desaki (Tsuruya) assumes office as the 2nd chairman.
1979
March Celebration of the 20th anniversary and commemoration of its founding (at Happo-en).
1981
March Symbol mark for the association finalized.
August Implementation of the Japan Restaurant Association registration system.
1984
January Celebration of the 25th anniversary and publication of “Japan’s restaurants first-class series magazine book”.
March 25th anniversary and establishment the “Gourmet Literary Award”.
1985
October Japan Restaurant Association establishes employees’ pension fund plan.
1986
March Ken Tokumitsu (Kagairo) assumes office as the 3rd chairman.
1988
August Partnership with the Japanese Restaurant Association of Southern California (now known as The Japanese Restaurant Association of America).
1990
November Partnership with Germany North Rhine-Westphalia Restaurant & Hotel Association and Destination Düsseldorf.
1994
March Shiho Kawai (Hotel The Elsie) assumes office as the 4th chairman.
September Partnership with the Japanese San Francisco Golden Gate Restaurant Association.
1995
March Hiroshi Sukegawa assumes office as 5th chairman.
November Opening of the first top seminar.
1997
March 第Toshio Desaki (Tsuruya) assumes office as 6th chairman.
April Start of the association homepage.

April Japan Restaurant Association transitions to a new system of standards for eligibility for association membership.
July Start of special credit card commission rate.
November Start of English version of the association website.

March Matsuzawa Masayoshi (Fujita Kanko) assumes office as 7th chairman.
2006
March Akio Tsuda (Nadaman) assumes office as 8th chairman.
April Establishment of the training system for other businesses.
May Culture exchange between Japan and Australia and introduction of Japanese Cuisine at the “Traditional Japanese Culture Festival” in Perth, Australia.

September Establishment of online sale of “Special order items at popular restaurants” with the aim of promoting luxury Japanese restaurants among general consumers.

October 50th anniversary and publication of the “Restaurant Member General Guidebook”.
November 50th anniversary ceremony and banquet at Imperial Hotel.
